Our tree choices and why

Choosing the right tree to maximise the capturing of carbon from a given area was an important part of our research.

The biochemical reaction of extracting carbon from the air to grow is the same for all plants. However, the faster a plant grows - the more carbon it will absorb per second.

This simple fact led us to our Hybrid range of flagship trees. These we have named - The Carbon Catchers.

However, Oak trees are important to plant for their long term impact on the environment. Throughout their hundreds of years of life, they extract huge amounts of carbon from the air. This is a great thing for the climate but is not a short term solution. As a responsible company, looking beyond tomorrow- we will also be planting Oak trees for long term effects.

Pine trees, Willow trees and Conifers will also be planted alongside a wide selection of other native trees to make our forest more diverse which will promote a breadth of wildlife.

Lancashire County Council - Figures

Lancashire County Council was our first port of call when we began our research. Their website stated that:

  • The average person in UK  has a carbon footprint of 4.8 tonnes per year
  •  Lancashire's figure was 5.7 tonnes
  • West Lancashire's figure was 7.7 tonnes
  • This was double the footprint for the borough of Blackpool with 3.35 tonnes

We believe this data gives clear reasoning as to why our plot in West Lancashire is an ideal location to help balance the figures.
